C-TIDES, Cell for Technology Innovation, Development and Entrepreneurship Support, of IIT Madras was created in March 2000, and it evolved from the Entrepreneurship Encouragement Forum, which was formed by students in 1994 and active until the end of 1999. Through the years, C-TIDES has organized numerous lectures, workshops, and competitions aimed at providing participants, primarily students, with an insight into entrepreneurship. Through these events, C-TIDES continues to inspire students to aspire becoming entrepreneurs while inculcating the spirit of professional ethics.

- Organizing competitions to promote technological creativity and innovation among students
- Leveraging good student projects dealing with technology development
- Organizing lectures/panel discussions/workshops featuring entrepreneurs, scientists and professionals
- Identifying business opportunities for indigenous technologies
- Extending incubation support through knowledge inputs from IIT faculty and alumni, and also through provision of functional space for student-led start-ups
- Partnering with reputed entrepreneurship promotion bodies, organizations, societies in order to have our students benefit from their inputs
- Support the Institute's initiatives and efforts for promoting entrepreneurship education and research
